First Week of Practice
I'm very happy with the way the first week of practice is going. I'm pleased to see everybody working hard! Remember to check out the links on the bottom of the page for updates on champion efforts/featured athletes of the week, etc. While we won't have featured athletes for a couple of weeks, there have been some efforts worth highlighting. Check out the champion efforts link to see who has earned points in practice for working hard!

Pasta Party
Hi Everybody!
As you may have heard, the captains are planning a pasta party for the team and parents on April 5th. There are sign up sheets in the locker room for you to sign up to bring something (main dish, dessert, bread, drinks, etc.). Talk to your parents and discuss what you can bring. We are planning to have this party outside by the track. If it's going to be very cold or rainy that day, we have reserved the caf on April 15th so that will be the rain date. We will decide whether we will postpone a few days in advance.
I've had a great time at practice so far! I hope you are all enjoying yourself as well!

More Info!
Hi Everybody!
Thanks for coming to tonight's sign up meeting. A few pieces of information I forgot to mention.
1) As Coach Mengold mentioned, you can drop off your forms in the Girl's Track mailbox in the athletic director's office. I will be at Amity at 2:30 on 3/16 (right after school) in the cafeteria to collect any lingering forms and confirm what I have and haven't received.
2). All Monday practices will be short, except the first Monday which will be a regular length practice (until about 5). I will try my best to get athletes done with practice by 5PM on other weekdays, but I can't guarantee they will be finished until 5:30. Most people will definitely be done by five, but if decide to do a technical event (throws, jumps, hurdles), you might have slightly longer practices. Even if you do a technical event, I will aim for a 5PM finish.
3) Shoes, shoes, shoes. The running shoe is to runners as a helmet is to a football player. Shoes are our best protective gear--they will help to prevent the #1 injury that plagues our team---shin splints. Make sure you have a pair of running shoes that aren't worn. For example, if you have been running in the same shoes for the past 2 years, you might consider getting a new pair. Even getting a new pair every season/year is extremely helpful. If you don't know what kind of shoe to wear, go to the Woodbridge Running Company---they will tell which shoe will be best for your foot. Here is the website with the address and information.

4) While I don't claim to be a nutritionist, I can tell you two things that are very important with regards to food/drink intake. First, make sure you are drinking plenty of water. The last thing you want is to be dehydrated when you are doing a track workout. Carry a bottle of water around with you at school...and continue to refill it! The other thing is to make sure you are getting enough fuel. Eat a good breakfast and lunch before coming to practice. Food is to the body like gas is to a car--I like analogies!
