Minnie Chen was selected as athlete of the week by her teammates after her performance in the meet against Sheehan. Minnie had a huge personal personal record, running 6:00 in the mile. The next step is to break into the five minute range! We expect to see great things from Minnie this season.
Shaylyn had a big day in the sprints, running in the 4x1, 100, and 200. Her times of 14.29 in the 100 meters, and 29.98 in the 200 meters are establishing her as a force to be reckoned with! Shaylyn, only a freshman, was also selected as athlete of the week by her teammates.
Week of April 11th
Kaitlin Collins was selected by one of last week's athletes of the week as one of this week's featured athletes. Kaitlin earned two personal records and two first place finishes in the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. She also qualified for states in these two events. She also ran the lead-off leg in the winning 4x100 relay.
Allie Graham was selected by one of last week's athletes of the week as one of this week's featured athletes. She has an outstanding work ethic and has been battling through shin splints. Despite this, she earned herself two personal records in the hurdle events, beating her bests by over a second and close to three seconds in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, respectively.
Week of April 25th
Coming off of a shin injury, Jane Depgen had a clutch performance in the 3200 in the meet against Daniel Hand and Lyman Hall. In a close meet against Hand, Jane her 3200 teammates to a 1-2-3 finish in that event. This performance sealed Amity's victory.
Maryssa Kozek split a 2:27 in the 4x8 yesterday, running the fastest 800 split this season of any Amity athlete. Maryssa, expecting to run the 400 yesterday, stepped up to run the open 800 to best help her team. She then came back and ran a great leg in the 4x4. Maryssa was a huge component of Amity's victory. She stepped up to do what the team needed and performed very well.
Week of May 9th
Leanne led a group of girls to amazing results in the mile against Shelton. Leanne also hit a huge personal record of 5:26---which is her first time under 5:30. She raced with guts and didn't let up. These performances in the mile were instrumental in defeating Shelton.
Miranda is a freshman with tremendous amounts of potential. She raced to a 53.4 in her first ever 300 hurdle race. This time qualified her for the sectional championship meet. She is the only freshman to qualify for this meet. We are very lucky to have her for three more years!
